The scope of Dr. Caglayan’s research ranges from developing new techniques in the areas of digital signal processing (DSP) with data mining applications and computer vision to building innovative smart sensor and Internet of Things (IoT) networks, low power embedded systems by using machine learning, such as TinyML, in real-time implementations. In DSP, he is particularly interested in discrete orthogonal transforms, time-frequency representations of signals and multidimensional signal processing.
In data mining, his focus is to analyze “big data” by developing new feature vector generation methods based on discrete orthogonal transforms, and unsupervised or supervised learning techniques for classification and decision making. In IoT, he investigates how DSP-based techniques can enable smart sensing, computationally efficient aggregation, and analysis of multimedia data.
